Unified of Earthen Ring was a tight-knit guild. Clique-ish, yes, but such was often the case with 40 man raiding guilds. We had five to eight paladins in a cozy little group, and the tanks had their cozy little group, and so on. Regardless, the sense of camaraderie still spread out across the entire guild, and more than once we had people quit…and come back…and quit…and come back…like we were secretly laced with crack. “I miss the people,” they said.
We had a lot of lovely, nutty people.
Despite that fact that Josh and I have since moved to another server, I keep my ties on Earthen Ring. I rolled a DK to hold my original name-Ambrosine, without the fucking y, thank you very much-and clutch the Unified banner still. Nor am I the only one…looking through our rosters you see a legacy of old names. Orbod, the mage who came back even after sharding all his gear and deleting and swearing he’d never return. Twice. Jaffar, a rogue whose ties to me go back to when I was a wee noob in an RP guild. Choppuh, a rather infamously random hunter. Some of us even continue to log on these retired characters, contently clinging to memories.
So it was that when Choppuh happened to poke me in Ye Olde Green Text and ask if we wanted to go to dinner, since he’d be in the area, I gleefully accepted. Who cares if we hadn’t raided together since BC? We spent hours wiping on Nef together! He’s forgiven for going mostly horde because he kills one of our ex-officers on sight in AV. I’m down with that.
We went to Lou’s, because no one from out of state who wants Chicago pizza should miss Lou Malnati’s, at 7…and finally left at 10:30. There was much random babble…and reminiscing. Good times!
Say what you will of a video game, but you can’t fully dismiss the bonds that are formed.
Alas, Choppuh seems far more sane and even, dare I say, “normal” IRL than he does in game. ;)
Random It’s A Small World Tidbit: One of our former rogues, Shadeen, sold fraud protection over the phone (or something like that). He once happened to call Josh, who recognized his voice from vent. :D
