(We made good progress, and I’m actually proud of our off-night attempts.  But seriously, WTF hunters.  Also, kudos to Oasic, one of our much loved resident holy priests.  See, Oasic, I can blog about you without you being a douche!  Especially if you continue to stand in the way of boss charges and die.  ;)  Your death was a lesson to us all!)

Those worms are a bitch. And a half. I hates them, I do. We took a 10-man in there the other night, and while we’ve downed them in the past a few times (we were anxious for progression this time, dammit!), we all sucked on Tuesday. It was so ugly it wasn’t even ugly anymore.

But wait till you get to the faction champions. I can’t wait for that post. (Of course, you’re on a PvP server so you do have that going for you.)

  2. #2 by Mikata on September 11, 2009 - 9:59 am

    Amber… PvP??

    Lawl.

  3. #3 by Ambrosyne on September 11, 2009 - 10:03 am

@Kestrel – This is Amber in PvP:

    Enter combat.
    Die.

    The end.

Also the worms caused almost all our wipes-the first guy was no big deal, just a mana eater.

  4. #4 by Prot on September 11, 2009 - 10:28 am

Faction Champions are to PvP as Quests are to End game raiding.

Those worms though, wow, they are the roughest part of that fight. One helpful hint for the end of the fight though is if the big boss goes all red then you can use a hunter to stop it (or a rogue).

If/when you do make a strat on that fight I would love for you to call the event when he throws everyone to the wall “the gravitron” (or locally known as the turkish twister).

    @Prot

The ironic thing is that when he did enrage, the only person in the group we had who could tranq him was Hunt, and when Icehowl enraged, that very second before Hunt could hit his tranq button, Icehowl spun around and breathed on him and shot him…

    the end… very anticlimaxtic, imo.

Is it just me being dense, or does Prot’s analogy make absolutely no sense?

  7. #7 by HoHo on September 11, 2009 - 10:51 am

Just wait until you start doing it on heroic. 35k impale ticks combined with 45k hits and 25k+ melee hits, sometimes all landing in under 0.3s while healers are harassed by adds. Fun times :)

  8. #8 by theerivs on September 11, 2009 - 11:01 am

It’s not BoO’s fault. The mage sucked big time. I think he was alt-tabbed looking at porn on the Impaler, he was filing his nails when the worms were out, and doing a crossword on Icehowl. I swear he asked in Vent for a 6 letter word for a “Device that cleans out a womans privates”

    Damn Mages….

[RA] [Rilgon]: Well if the tank can’t keep up with a Hunter doing 6000 DPS then I shouldn’t have been brought along! /seethe

Oh wait, no, that’s my old guild, my ber of awesomeness is bloody damn IMPOSSIBLE to pull off of.

    Hey Amber… I got a flowchat idea for ya…

Flowchart Friday: Handling Stupid People in Raids

Pull that one off and I’ll praise you like a god, haha.

  11. #11 by Kestrel on September 11, 2009 - 11:46 am

‘fraid I didn’t follow Prot’s analogy either. Oh, and you’ll hear crap like “Faction Champions don’t have an aggro table.”

    Bullshit.

    Their aggro table is 1 – Healers; 2 – Other Clothies; 3 – Whatever’s left.

  12. #12 by Kestrel on September 11, 2009 - 11:47 am

And I like Mika’s idea for FCF, only because I WANT to see her praise you like a god. LOLing at the very thought…

  13. #13 by Mikata on September 11, 2009 - 11:58 am

Ha… I don’t think Amber is THAT talented at flowcharts.

    @Rilgon –

Know your tank! Just because you can open up early with one tank, does not mean that you can open up early with the OTHER tank. That doesn’t mean that you can’t come, or that you can’t do your best DPS, just that you need to wait a gods be damned minuite.

BOTH hunters pulled early in the fight, which told me they had itchy trigger fingers. Also, you feign before you pull, not after the boss has charged halfway across the room at you. :P

These were…not our best two tanks. Solid tanks, sure, but not our best two.

@Prot – I follow your analogy even if they don’t. :P Obviously they weren’t tortured with A is to B as C is to ____ questions in school like I was. It’s all a great big =/= in this case!

    Woot! I am famous!

  16. #16 by Ambrosyne on September 11, 2009 - 4:08 pm

Want your own tag, Oasic? ;)

  17. #17 by Oasic on September 11, 2009 - 4:12 pm

As long as its not a failangel. :-)

Also, I only died from the boss charge because I was panicking! I should be good for next attempt though… it is, after all, the easiest thing to avoid. /sigh

  18. #18 by Oasic on September 11, 2009 - 4:18 pm

I actually read that wrong entirely… (I read it as the avatar icon)

**As long as it doesn’t involve failangels.

If you believe that the Faction Champions are anything like PvP then you must think that the final quest you did in Ice Crown was like downing the final boss in Sunwell at 70.

The Faction Champions are not PvP. They don’t make mistakes, they focus fire, they have 10 times the normal health of any pvp player you will ever face, if you kill the guy with a pet his pet will still run all over the raid. Even though it is 10 vs 6 you still feel out numbered.

I hate the Faction Champion fight with a passion. I hated it when they did it in MgT but at least in MgT we had crowd control. This stupid fight nerfs crowd control down to 10 sec and only 3 CC’s before they become immune. As a tank I have my Taunts resisted after 3 times and then I need to wait to do it again.

  20. #20 by Kestrel on September 12, 2009 - 11:50 am

Faction Champions IS like PvP, if your arena foes were bots. Your foes in the Faction Champions fight ARE bots.

The point is, and is made in every video I’ve seen on the fight, this fight is “like PvP” in that there is no aggro table for any of your opponents. No, they do not “focus fire” on one target at the exclusion of all others (unless their rogue has an AOE other than Fan of Knives!). When Grid shows 7 out of 10 raid members have Threat at the same time, I find it hard to see “focus fire” as the cause. :)

  21. #21 by wantedpriest on September 14, 2009 - 2:49 pm

If I understand Prot correctly, I think his analogy should read Faction Champions:PVP::End Game Raiding:Quests. That would make sense!

As a Disc Priest who does a fair amount of arenas, I have found the FC to be a pretty spectacular approximation of the arena for a computer program. And did you notice the Skynet tabards they are wearing??? Terrifying!

They are scary and ebil! :) We downed them our first time last night :)Yay \o/ we had an awesome combo on the group make up… 2 warriors (1 prot), 3 priest (1 holy, 2 SP) a drood, 2 pallies (1 healer, 1 ret), dk and a hunter.

So frost trap (we had the hunter run it lay it, deterence disengage, we waited a sec or two for them to pop thier trinks (pvp one), then had the prot run in and use his stun stomp thingy, then fear… then we had a fear rotation. We tried to CC the enhanc sham sham (trap, and cyclone), I tried to tank/taunt the adds I could. The pallie was locked down by the prot warrior.
Oh and mass dispells are your friends yo! especially when the pallie bubbles the drood and interupt the tree!

Kill order was Tree, sham, dk, SP, pally then hunter.

We wipped a-LOT, like this is week 2-3 of wipes :( but finally we got him.

    Then we downed the twins.

And Anub, we tried 3 times then ppl had to take off :( I think given about 2-3 more we would have had him, our first attempt we got him to 55% with no one knowing what was going on… Ice patches are good!
