If you’re like me, you looked at the patch notes and noted the tweaks and didn’t really pay a whole lot of attention to it. I mean, I raided on Wednesday and Thursday and did more DPS than I had been and didn’t think too much of it*…
…and then someone said “Hey Amber, did you know were were supposed to DPS in unholy presence now?”
Cue me going “What?”
So if, like me, you only JUST optimized your gear a week ago and hadn’t really thought about having to DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN, and TOTALLY MISSED THIS SHIT, here are the chages to DW frosty goodness as spewed forth by the people who like doing math more than I do:
- No more Blood Strike! (nooo now my bars are uneven!)
- DPS in Unholy Presence (wat)
- Stat priority changed to hit > expertise > haste > mastery > crit
Haste over mastry?!?!?
Unholy presence?!?!?!
Um, okay, if you say so!
And yes, I realize I’m late to the party. Derp derp…
*The change to rocket boots (boosts, whatever) also went mostly unobserved and ended up killing me when I tried to rocket back from a wipe. Thanks, Blizz. I was staring at my screen trying to figure out why they were on CD but I hadn’t blown up or anything, and then I died. From a fuel leak. Awesome.

Wait … they changed the rocket boots?
#2 by Cynwise on May 2, 2011 - 10:20 am
DPS in Unholy? The hell?
#3 by Cynwise on May 2, 2011 - 10:22 am
Like, seriously. You’re not pulling my leg, are you?

AND THE DARKNESS RAINED UPON THEM
#5 by Rades on May 2, 2011 - 10:44 am
DPS in Unholy, yeah I know! I foresee them changing it though since Frost Presence is used by ZERO of the specs currently.

Balls. I saw the haste optimization through askmrrobot, but didn’t put it together with it no longer recommending a run speed enchant. Derp, indeed.

I’m just still boggling UTTERLY at the stealth movement speed change for rogues…

I am of the opinion that blizz reads your blog and knew that the change to rocket boots would totally blow your mind. Greg Street is probably cackling over his throne sipping some rum as we type.

@Myss – He can fuck off and die. They just like to keep killing me with engineering.

I’m pretty sure if you were a Frost DK during 4.0.6 you should’ve been using a 2H spec (which was better than dual wield) and 2H dps specs have always used Unholy presence since Cataclysm.
I was never really into PvE but thats what I remember reading off EJ before quitting couple months ago.

@Issakhar: Just because technically 2h frost was above DW frost doesn’t mean she NEEDS to dps as 2h frost. DW was perfectly fine, and it wasn’t terrible dps by any stretch.
@Cynwise: It’s true. I was the one who informed her of the changes for 4.1. DW and 2h frost both use unholy presence now, and have the exact same stat priorities (haste and mastery were switched for DW).
@Splat: They only changed the malfunction in raids/bgs/arenas, due to people being able to explode upwards into places they “shouldn’t be able to reach”. Out in the world, they will still lift you off into the air on malfunctions.

@Issakhar – I have an intense dislike for 2h weapons. They feel annoying slow to me and I dislike the animations. DW forever! …unless I have to go blood. QQ, I miss DW tanking.
I suppose I should say “I do what EJ tells me to do unless I don’t like it. Then they can go fuck themselves.”
I just like to make the best of whatever my chosen spec is (see: BM hunters in Wrath).

Yay! Unholy presence – faster running away from horrible puddles on the floor. Except my frost spec seems to get me put on permanent add kiting duty, so it’s back to blood presence fir that.
I know what you mean about the Blood Strike disappearing problem – I’ve left it on my bar regardless, it would look messy without it!

It’s stories like this that help to convince me – this is why engineers can make repair bots, and this is why some people need to take engineering. :) Reminds me of a rogue in my guild who is also an engineer and constantly getting himself killed. Including with rocket boots.
Had to switch to 2H frost thanks to this patch, no more purple bubbles for me. feh. I will spec DW when I acquire dual Soul Blades, and then I will DPS with a disco ball, with the Shaft soundtrack playing in the background.

They have made me a little sad with the boot failure rate, I dont dare use it in a raid setting for fear of killing myself heh, but lucky for me I’m a feral cat and have lots of movement options, go go sprint, Dark flightthing and Stamp Roaaarrr to get around faster.
